Tokyo Olympics 2020: NRAI President Raninder Singh also could not understand why Jaspal had insisted Manu to focus only on air pistol.
Manu Bhaker participated in the 10m Air Pistol event but she could not make it to the finals.
Indian female shooter Manu Bhaker’s performance in the Tokyo Olympics has been very disappointing. Since then many questions are arising. One of them is whether it was right to break the winning combination of shooter Manu Bhaker and Dronacharya coach Jaspal Rana three months before the Tokyo Olympics? Manu Bhaker and his family felt that Jaspal was insensitive in dealing with the 19-year-old shooter. Jaspal was constantly insisting that it is wrong to field Manu in three competitions in the Olympics.
Even the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) President Raninder Singh could not understand why Jaspal had insisted Manu to focus only on the air pistol. They used to rely on the process of selection as per merit. Raninder Singh said- “There was only one person who was negative in the whole thing. I am referring to Jaspal Rana.”
had problems working with
The NRAI president said that he could not resolve the issue despite two attempts. Once during the World Cup in Delhi and once after that, Manu brought his family with Rana. Raninder said that he is unable to work together. Raninder was unwilling to blame Jaspal for the Tokyo results. Especially for Manu’s performance so far in the Air Pistol.
“Not Jaspal’s fault”
Raninder said, “Our performance in Tokyo is not Jaspal’s fault. I cannot hold him responsible for this. I can say with certainty that it may have some effect on Manu.” Manu, on his part, is a mentally tough athlete. He stressed that he has a habit of participating in three events in all international competitions for the past three years.
“It’s not my decision to change coach”
Manu Bhaker in Tokyo said that “I am shooting three events in every competition. Why would there be this pressure?” Manu, however, revealed that it was not his decision to part ways with coach Jaspal.
The NRAI has roped in former India shooter and coach Raunak Pandit to coach him after medal hopeful Manu Bhaker had a tussle with junior national coach Jaspal Rana.
