Dinesh Karthik, who became a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the second time in IPL, personally had a very good season and he hit 22 sixes for RCB.
Another season of the Indian Premier League ended and the league got a new champion. Gujarat Titans, making their debut in IPL 2022, won the title by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets in the final held on Sunday 29 May. With this, after 6 years, the new team became the champion in the IPL. Now the trophy was in the hands of Gujarat, but some players of other teams made a lot of headlines on the basis of their performance and they also got rewards in the end. One of them was the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik of Royal Challengers Bangalore. This experienced player of RCB won such an award, which ended the dominance of West Indies players.
IPL 2022 was a very special season for Karthik. This time again he returned to Bangalore and leaving behind the failure of the last few seasons, he made a lot of color with his bat. Karthik’s finisher’s innings played a big role in helping Bangalore win many matches. He scored 330 runs for Bangalore in 16 innings, including 22 sixes, which was the highest for Bangalore this season. He was the third highest run-scorer for RCB after Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli.
Karthik’s speed is heavy on everyone
What made this tremendous performance even more special and his batting speed. Karthik scored these 330 runs at a staggering strike rate of 183.3, which was the highest in the entire season among batsmen who played more than 100 balls. For his performance, Karthik was awarded the season’s ‘Super Striker Award’, which is given to the batsman who scored the highest strike rate in the entire season. With this, Karthik ended the one-sided dominance of the West Indies players running for this award. This time Karthik got a shining car in this award.
Windies players dominate for 5 consecutive seasons
This award was introduced in IPL in 2018 and since then this is the first time that a batsman from other country has won this award instead of a West Indies player. In 2018, it was first won by Sunil Narine from Kolkata’s side. Then in 2019 too, Andre Russell of KKR was captured. Former West Indies captain Kieran Pollard won the award for Mumbai Indians in 2020, while Shimron Hetmyer proved to be the fastest batsman in the last season.
