India’s Under-19 women’s team, captained by Shefali Verma, has been given a reward of Rs 5 crore by the BCCI for winning the first T20 World Cup title.
When the Indian cricket team won the World Cup for the first time in 1983, it attracted a whole generation to cricket and many kids picked up the ball and bat and decided to make it their career. Not everyone was successful in this, but among those who were successful, one name was included in the greatest players of this game. This batsman was- Sachin Tendulkar. After that World Cup victory and the completion of his own career, Sachin recalled that and gave an example to honor the young girls of India who won the Under-19 T20 World Cup title for the first time in South Africa.
Before the third and last match of the T20 series between India and New Zealand on Wednesday, February 1, the Board of Control for Cricket in India held a special felicitation ceremony for the World Cup winning Indian team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Team India, captained by Shefali Verma, was given the respect it deserved in front of thousands of spectators in the world’s largest cricket stadium.
‘Dreams given to young girls’
The felicitation ceremony was made even more special by the presence of Sachin Tendulkar and the Master Blaster also left no stone unturned to praise the young team for winning India’s first title in women’s cricket. Sachin Tendulkar, referring to the 1983 World Cup 40 years ago, said,
I want to congratulate you on your wonderful achievement. The whole country will celebrate (the victory) for years to come. The beginning of my cricket dream started with the Indian team becoming the World Cup winner in 1983. You have also given birth to many new dreams. This is a wonderful achievement. By winning this World Cup, you have given the dream of representing the country to the young girls of India.
“The entire nation will celebrate and cherish your victory”

The most special event of WPL
Not only this, Sachin also mentioned the Women’s Premier League (WPL) starting soon and said, the start of WPL is going to be the biggest thing. I believe in equality for men and women. Not only in sports but everywhere both should have equal opportunities. BCCI and its officials have contributed a lot in making women’s cricket prosperous. I think it’s a sign that we’ll do really well.
