Former India hockey captain Viren Wilfred Raskinha is celebrating his 41st birthday today i.e. on 12 September. This hockey player, who represented the country for six years, is also known today as a commentator and businessman.
Viren made his debut for the Indian team in the year 2002. Till the year 2008, he has played 181 matches for the country. He was also a part of the Indian team that finished fourth in the Athens Olympics in 2004, during which he played alongside legends like Dhanraj Pillai and Dilip Tirkey.
In the year 2008, he had said goodbye to hockey forever for MBA. He had done B.Com. After retirement from hockey, he did his MBA from the Indian School of Business Management, Hyderabad. After that he joined the Olympic Gold Quest and is today its CEO.
After the 2016 Rio Olympics, he was made a part of the PMO task force along with Abhinav Bindra and Pullela Gopichand. Who had prepared plans for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, 2024 Paris Olympics and 2028 Olympics. India did its best in this year’s Olympics by winning seven medals.
In the year 2004, he was awarded the Shiv Chhatrapati Award by the Government of Maharashtra. The next year, the Government of India gave him the Arjuna Award. These days he appears in the role of commentator in TV programs.
