The Indian cricket team is constantly struggling with the injury problems of its players. Many big players have been injured, which has put Team India in trouble in different tournaments and series. In such a situation, if a player gets injured during a match, then the heartbeat of the Indian fans increases. Something similar was about to happen in the first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad with veteran Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who had to face a sharp shot off his own ball.
Shardul Thakur, who is returning to Team India from the ODI series against New Zealand, got a chance in the very first match. Shardul could contribute only 3 runs with his bat in making Team India’s 349 runs, but his real need was in bowling to Team India. He soon got a chance to show this and as soon as he came, he did wonders. Just before that amazing, he also got a little wound.
contusion to ribs
Shardul was put in for bowling in the 13th over. By this time, New Zealand’s young opener Finn Allen seemed successful in putting pressure on the Indian bowlers. He adopted the same strategy against Shardul. On the very second ball of the over, Allen hit the shot with full force. Unfortunately, this shot of his flying fast went straight towards Shardul Thakur.
The Indian bowlers could not even complete their run-up, that the ball hit them straight in their chest near the ribs.
equal score within 3 balls
Shardul tried to stop this shot coming towards him, tried to take the catch but failed. However, even this shot and this injury did not deter Shardul and the Indian bowler leveled his score with Finn Allen in the same over. On the fifth ball of the over, Shardul caught Allen with a change of pace and the Kiwi batsman gave the catch at deep square leg and Shahbaz Ahmed caught the catch as a substitute player. Despite getting hurt, in this over, Shardul not only got the wicket, but also gave only one run.
