These days the one player who is being discussed and debated fiercely in Indian cricket is Sanju Samson. Cricket fans have been expressing displeasure over this aggressive wicketkeeper-batsman not getting enough opportunities in Team India. Now Samson is getting a chance to play in the ODI series on New Zealand tour, which has given some happy moments to his fans. However, without Sanju, his state Kerala team suffered a crushing defeat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where Jammu and Kashmir easily defeated them by 7 wickets to make it to the quarter-finals.
The pre-quarterfinal matches of the tournament were played on Saturday 26 November, in which Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir clashed in Ahmedabad. In this match, two players from Jammu and Kashmir played a big role in destroying Kerala’s batting and bowling. The Kerala team looked helpless in front of right-arm fast bowler Aaqib Nabi and team opener Shubham Khajuria and lost the match 12 overs earlier.
Kerala demolished in front of Nabi
On the one hand, while fast bowler Umran Malik, who came out of Jammu, is setting fire to New Zealand with his pace, his partner Nabi has spread his fire in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 26-year-old Aaqib took a career-best 4/39 as Jammu and Kashmir bowled out Kerala for just 174 runs in 47.4 overs. For Kerala, playing without their biggest batsman in the form of Samson, opener Vinup Manoharan top-scored with 62 off 81 balls. Sijomon Joseph scored 32 runs.
56 runs in 11 balls
In response, Jammu and Kashmir won the match till the 38th over on the basis of half-centuries by Khajuria (76 runs, 61 balls) and Kamran Iqbal (51 runs). While opening, both had decided the victory by sharing a 113-run partnership in 21.4 overs. Running in tremendous form, Khajuria scored 56 runs in his innings with 6 sixes and 5 fours in just 11 balls. This is his fourth consecutive half-century in this season. Jammu and Kashmir will now take on Group B toppers Assam in the quarter-finals on Monday, November 28.
