Team with Indian players lost badly in Australia, did not score 100 runs in 20 overs match

Melbourne Renegades had a great game but the team could not make it to the final.

The journey of Melbourne Renegades, the team of Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrihues, came to an end in the Women’s Big Bash League 2021. Adelaide Strikers defeated Melbourne by nine wickets in the Challenger match on 25 November. Batting first, Melbourne’s team could only score 83 runs for eight wickets. After this, Adelaide won the match by nine wickets with 55 balls remaining. Right-arm fast bowler Darcy Brown inflicted heavy damage on Melbourne. He took two wickets for just nine runs in four overs. He took the wickets of Jemima Rodrigues and Carly Leeson. He was adjudged the player of the match for this performance. Adelaide will now face Perth Scorchers in the final on November 27.

With this, the journey of Indian players in the Women’s Big Bash League also ended. Jemima and Harmanpreet were the last Indians in this tournament whose team was retained in the tournament. This time eight Indian players took part in the Women’s Big Bash League. Apart from Jemima, Harmanpreet, Radha Yadav, Shefali Verma, Poonam Yadav, Richa Ghosh, Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma were included.

Bad start for Melbourne

Batting first, Melbourne got off to a bad start. Josephine Dooley was bowled by Megan Shut on the very first ball of the match. Carly Leeson (2) was dispatched in the second over. In such a situation, the fans of Melbourne hoped that Jemima Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur together would get the team out of trouble. But this could not happen. Darcy Brown dismissed Jemima (16) in the fourth over. On the other hand, Harmanpreet Kaur became a victim of Tahlia McGrath after scoring seven runs. In such a situation, wickets kept falling continuously.

Melbourne’s score became 47 for six in 12 overs. In the end, Ella Hayward (18) and Holly Ferling (11) took the team to 88 runs but this score was not enough to win. For Melbourne, five batsmen crossed the double-figure mark but none of the batsmen could even reach 20 runs. Apart from Darcy Brown, Megan Shut took two wickets for Adelaide.

Adelaide easily achieved the target

Adelaide Strikers had no problem chasing the target. Opener Dane Van Niekerk (43) and Katie Mack (31) shared a 72-run partnership for the first wicket. Both added this run in 57 balls. None of the bets of taking Melbourne’s wicket worked. However, Carly Leeson got Niekerk out and gave Melbourne the first and only success. But Laura Walwart, along with Niekerk, led the team to victory and reached the final.
