The Super-12 round of the T20 World Cup will start from 23 October.
The title battle of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is starting from Saturday 23 October. The first round of the tournament, which started in Oman and UAE from October 17, is over. A total of 12 matches were played in this round between 8 countries including great teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and 4 of these teams have reached the second round i.e. Super-12 stage, from where the real race for the title starts. Is. There are already 8 teams in the Super-12, which were in the top 8 places in the ICC rankings at the time of qualification. All these teams are divided into two groups and in these, two teams each have made their place from the first round of the World Cup. Now that the first round is over, it is important to take a look at both the groups, as one of these groups has become the ‘Group of Death’ in football parlance.
The last two matches of the first round were played on Friday 22 October, in which Namibia defeated Ireland in a thrilling match from Group A to make it to the second round. Sri Lanka also won their third match from this group. The Sri Lankan team had already confirmed its place in the Super-12 two days ago and its group was also confirmed, which was stamped on Friday. On the same day, i.e. Thursday 21 October, the last matches of Group-B were played, in which Bangladesh defeated Papua New Guinea, while Scotland defeated Oman. Scotland finished first in the group, while Bangladesh came second. With these results, the situation of both the groups of Super-12 has become something like this.
Super-12 Group 1: The ‘Group of Death’ with three world champions
Current world champions West Indies, 2010 world champions England, Australia and South Africa. Group-1 of Super-12 was already filled with these four tremendous teams. There was a vacancy for two teams in this group, who were to get entry after the first round. The situation that happened after the results of the first round, hardly anyone could have imagined. Sri Lanka made it to this group after finishing on top of Group A. At the same time, Bangladesh also got a place in the same group due to being second in Group-B. That is, now there are 3 world champion teams in this group, who together have won 4 out of 6 T20 World Cup titles. In this sense, this group has become the most difficult group of this World Cup, which can easily be called ‘Group of Death’.
Super-12 Group 2: Team India’s road easy?
At the same time, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan were already in the second group of Super-12. In this group, two teams were to get entry from the first round. Ideally, it would have been that the Bangladeshi team would have hit their entry here, but Scotland defeated them to stop this from happening. The prize went to Scotland, who reached here due to the first place in Group B. At the same time, Namibia, the weakest team in Group A, participating in the World Cup for the first time, surprised everyone and made it to the second round. However, one can be overwhelming on the day of the match in the cricket field, but looking at the experience, ability and record, then the Super-12 round has become easy for teams like India, Pakistan and New Zealand.
The matches in the Super-12 round will start from October 23 and a total of 30 matches will be played in both the groups. Only two teams each from both these groups will advance and make it to the semi-finals. Obviously, the way both the groups have been prepared, there is bound to be some upheaval.
