Hardik Pandya did not bowl in the second phase of IPL-2021.
Before the start of the T20 World Cup 2021, there is a possibility of some reshuffle in the Indian cricket team and a big discussion in this is about the condition of all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Due to Hardik’s fitness, the question remains on his continuation in the team. The situation has arisen due to the confusion regarding the bowling of Hardik Pandya, who is suffering from a back injury. In such a situation, the question is arising whether any change is possible in Team India till October 15? Will someone else be included in Hardik’s place? According to a report, perhaps the Indian selectors and team management have made up their mind regarding Hardik that he will be included in the team only as a specialist batsman. In such a situation, young all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, who created sensation in IPL 2021, can be included as cover for Hardik.
During the selection of the Indian team last month, chief selector Chetan Sharma had said that Hardik will be in a position to complete four overs in every match in the World Cup. After this statement, the path of balance of playing XI for Team India seemed to be easy, but in the second part of IPL 2021 being played in UAE, Hardik did not bowl even once while playing for Mumbai Indians. Even in the first two matches, he was ruled out due to fitness issues. Since then, questions have been raised on Hardik’s bowling ability and his place in the team.
Hardik will bat only, Iyer will remain cover
The Indian team has a chance to change its 15-member squad till October 15. In such a situation, amidst the possibility of reshuffle, news agency PTI has claimed in its report that Hardik will be a part of the team’s bio-bubble in the UAE itself and there is a possibility that he will be included in the team only as a batsman.
Considering the question about Hardik’s fitness, the selectors can ask Venkatesh Iyer to stay in the team’s bio-bubble as cover. Venkatesh Iyer made his IPL debut in UAE itself and he can deliver useful medium pace along with aggressive batting. However, India also has the option of Shardul Thakur as an all-rounder, who has been included as a reserve player.
Who is Venkatesh Iyer?
26-year-old Venkatesh Iyer made his IPL debut in the UAE in the same season. Playing for Kolkata, Venkatesh scored 41 runs in his opening match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. After this, Iyer played some other good innings, including half-centuries against Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Not only this, Venkatesh also showed the power of his medium pace in the middle overs and took wickets along with economical bowling. He has scored 265 runs in 8 matches in IPL, while 3 wickets have also come in his account.
