Sam Karan made his IPL debut with the Punjab Kings. He was bought by Punjab for Rs 7.20 crore in the IPL 2019 auction. Later, the ICC included him among eight such players who can make a mark in the IPL. Sam Karan also lived up to this belief. Opening for Punjab in his second match, he scored a brisk 20 runs and took a hat-trick. He was elected Player of the Match due to this game. Then, in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, he blew Pachasa in just 23 balls. But Punjab did not trust him and released Sam Karan after IPL 2019. This English player played nine matches in his first season and took 10 wickets with 95 runs scored.

Sam Karan entered the IPL 2020 auction. Here, CSK led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni took him with him for an amount of Rs 5.5 crores. Although CSK’s journey in IPL 2020 was bad, but Karan was a silver lining in it. He played all 14 matches of the team. He scored 186 runs. A half-century was also involved in this. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also said that Sam Karan was the best thing for his team this season.
