The quarter-final round of the Ranji Trophy 2022 began on Monday, June 6 and last season’s runners-up Bengal made a strong start against Jharkhand.
After waiting for almost three months, the thrill of Ranji Trophy has started again. This season, which started late due to Corona virus infection, was divided into two parts, in which the league stage was played in February-March. After this, the time for the quarter-final matches was fixed after IPL 2022. Now after the end of IPL, finally the last-eight matches started. Bengal is facing Jharkhand in the quarter-final round which started on Monday 6th June and Bengal has made a great start to it. Bengal batsman Sudip Kumar Gharami scored the best century on the very first day.
With the help of Sudeep’s unbeaten century in this match being played in Bengaluru, Bengal scored 310 runs for just one wicket till the end of the first day’s play against Jharkhand. However, the team also suffered a setback due to the injury of its opener Abhishek Raman, who had started well, but then had to leave the innings midway and return. Raman and captain Abhimanyu Easwaran gave the team a great start. In the 25th over, both had added 88 runs till retired hurt due to injury. Raman scored 41 runs in 72 balls with the help of seven fours.
On the first day of this match, except the toss, nothing remained in favor of Jharkhand. Jharkhand captain Saurabh Tiwary won the toss and decided to bowl first, but from here things turned against him. Bengal’s batsmen proved his decision wrong. Even after Raman retired hurt, Easwaran continued to bat well. Finally, in the 40th over, he was dismissed LBW after scoring 65 runs (124 balls) off Sushant Mishra. He hit nine fours and a six in his innings.
This wicket had no effect on Bengal. For last season’s runner up Bengal, Gharami and experienced batsman Anustup Majumdar made an unbeaten partnership of 178 runs to strengthen the team. Both played the Jharkhand bowlers with ease and advised loose balls. Gharami has scored 106 runs in 204 balls with the help of 13 fours and one six. On the other hand, Majumdar scored 85 runs in 139 balls, which included 11 fours.
23-year-old Sudeep had played only 4 first class matches before this match, in which only 101 runs came in his account in 7 innings. But this time Sudeep took more runs in just one innings. Now both the batsmen will advance their innings on the second day and try to take the team to a big score so that the team can get the lead in the first innings and it will benefit the team in case the match is drawn.
