It is not easy to talk big and live up to them. Former chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Rameez Raja is the latest example of this. Rameez Raja, who dreamed of changing cricket in the country after becoming the president of the Pakistan Board a year ago, has been discharged. He has been sacked from the board and a new chief has also been appointed. It is difficult to say how much Pakistan cricket will benefit from this change, but Rameez Raja definitely harmed the Pakistani board in his time. In particular, one of his decisions cost the board Rs 36 crore.
After becoming the chairman of PCB, Rameez Raja had made many big promises to improve the condition of cricket in Pakistan. One of these promises was to prepare young players for the big level. For this, Rameez Raja announced the launch of Pakistan Junior League (PJL) on the lines of Pakistan’s premier franchise T20 tournament, Pakistan Super League. He somehow organized it, but it is now known that it caused huge damage to the board.
loss from dream project
According to a report in CricketPakistan.com, the Pakistan Junior League caused a loss of around 1 billion Pakistani rupees to the PCB. It has been told in the report that due to different expenses, a total of 99.69 crore Pakistani rupees were emptied from the treasury of PCB. If we weigh it in Indian Rupees, then this price reaches up to Rs.36.70 crores. This amount is not small for the Pakistani board facing financial crisis.
Rameez Raja had described PJL as his dream project and had given all the strength of PCB for this. The tournament was organized in October 2022, but its effect is now falling in the vault of PCB.
tournament will be closed
This is the reason that PCB’s new boss Nazar Sethi does not seem in favor of continuing this tournament further and has indicated to end the tournament only after one season. PCB had to struggle a lot for this tournament. PCB did not get the buyers of the franchises for the tournament, due to which the board itself had to take possession of all the franchises. That is, the salary received from the players to the support staff went from the treasury of PCB itself. PCB also did not get the title sponsorship easily and it fetched a total of Rs 6.95 crore only. More than this, the expenditure was spent on other things including its production.
