Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings, which finished ninth last season, is hoping to make a comeback this year, but at the beginning of the new season, it faced defeat and captain Dhoni’s decisions were a big reason for this.

New Delhi: on the cricket field ms dhoni When he comes down with his team, then the eyes are on the performance of the team as well as on his captaincy. Often Dhoni creates trouble for the front team with his decisions and strategies. Sometimes some of his decisions also prove to be wrong. Still, it is rarely seen that many decisions of ‘Captain Cool’ are proved wrong in a single match. The first match of IPL 2023 proved to be one such match, where not one decision of Dhoni but three decisions proved wrong against Gujarat Titans.
Last season, CSK finished ninth out of ten teams, which was their worst performance. The four-time champion is hoping to make a comeback this season. In such a situation, there could hardly have been a better start to the new season than a win in the very first match, that too against defending champions Gujarat. This did not happen and Gujarat continued their clean sweep against Chennai with a 5-wicket win.

Mistake of sending Shivam Dubey
CSK batted first in the match and it was here that Dhoni’s first decision proved wrong. Chennai had scored 121 runs till the 13th over on the basis of Rituraj Gaikwad’s explosive batting. Here Chennai had a chance to reach 200 runs and for this they had a chance to send Ravindra Jadeja but Dhoni sent Shivam Dubey.
Dubey played some good innings for CSK last season but going by his current form and experience, Jadeja would have been a better option. Shivam Dubey could score only 19 runs in 18 balls, which reduced the pace of Chennai and the team could score only 178 runs, which proved to be 20 runs less than the required score for victory.

Wrong player as an impact player
Chennai fielded fast bowler Tushar Deshpande as an impact player. Due to batting first, it was only natural to field the fast bowler. But here Dhoni and CSK made a mistake at the time of the toss itself. In all the matches that Tushar Deshpande played in the previous seasons of IPL, he bowled with an expensive economy of 10 runs per over. He had only 4 wickets in his account.
On the other hand, CSK had a better option in the form of Simarjeet Singh, who had run at 7.67 in 6 matches last season and also took 4 wickets. Tushar proved to be the most expensive this time too and gave away 51 runs in 3.2 overs.

Bowlers not used properly
Dhoni used only 5 bowlers in this match, in which only Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja looked better. Playing his first match in IPL, 20 year old fast bowler Rajvardhan Hungergekar impressed a lot and got 3 wickets. Whereas Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santner could not make any impact. In such a situation, why Dhoni did not use off-spinner Moin Ali was beyond comprehension.
Tushar Deshpande and Hungergekar bowl at almost the same pace. In such a situation, the slow pace of Shivam Dubey could force the Gujarat batsmen to make mistakes, but Dhoni did not try them either.
