Mahesh Teekshana made his debut in the one-day match against South Africa in the month of September this year. Here he took a wicket on his very first ball. He also took four wickets in the match. During this, he caught everyone’s attention with his mystery spin. He has played one ODI and five T20 matches so far. He has seven wickets in T20 matches. When Mahesh Teekshana was 15 years old, he went to Chintka Perera, who runs a cricket academy with his grandmother. Here he caught everyone’s attention with his bowling. His action was just like Ajanta Mendis. After seeing this bowling, Chintka Perera offered to get him admitted in St. Benedict’s College. Mahesh Teekshana and his family accepted it.
In his early days, Mahesh Teekshana did not spend any time during net practice. Whenever he got time, he started bowling. He had spent three years learning carrom ball. Also, did not put this ball in any match until he became a master in throwing this ball. Apart from bowling, he is also a good batsman. In 2012, he received the Best School Batsman Award. He used to play as an opener. But when bowling started paying attention, he left batting.
While in college, Mahesh Teekshana caught the attention of the selectors with his game. Due to this he was sent to the National Academy in Colombo. From here he got a place in the army team and Anjata Mendis soon got the contract of T10 tournament. He later played for the Jaffna Stallions in the Lankan Premier League. The fees they got from here. He gave some part of it to the college.
Mahesh Teekshana had to face trouble due to his heavy weight while moving forward. His reason was 105 kg. Due to this his fitness was also messed up. It took him more than 10 minutes to complete the two kilometer race. Due to this he was not selected for the Under 19 World Cup. But Mahesh Teekshana worked on his fitness. He completely removed rice, fried fish and snacks from the diet. Also increased his running. Due to this, by the time of 2020, his weight came down to 22 kg. At the same time, he started completing the two kilometer race in 8.28 minutes. After this he was selected in the Sri Lankan team.
