Indian Premier League has made the career of many young players of India. Nitish Rana, the strong link of Kolkata Knight Riders, is one such name. Rana’s performance in domestic cricket was not going on much, but then his brilliant performance in the IPL gave a new direction to his career. Rana returned to his form from the IPL and then earned his name as well. Rana’s IPL career started with Mumbai Indians. Rana also won the title in 2017 with this team. Then Kolkata Knight Riders added Rana to their team and since then Rana has been a strong link in the middle order of KKR.
Rana has played a total of 60 matches in five seasons of IPL and scored 1437 runs. Rana has scored in the IPL at an average of 28.17 and during this time, he has scored 11 half-centuries with his bat. Rana was joined by Mumbai Indians in 2015 but had to wait for his chances. Rana made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 11 May 2016. In 2016, Rana got the opportunity to play only four matches, but after that he continued to play in the final-11 the next year.
Missed the chance
In 2017, he fully redeemed the opportunities that Rana got. This season Rana played a total of 13 matches for Mumbai and scored 333 runs at an average of 30.27. Three half-centuries also came out of his bat. In the same season Mumbai won their third IPL title and Rana made a big contribution to it. Despite this, Mumbai released Rana. Rana leaves Kolkata from Mumbai. He joined Kolkata in the 2018 season and has been playing for the team continuously since then. In his first season for KKR, Rana scored 304 runs in 15 matches. This season he scored a half-century off his bat. In 2019 too, Rana performed brilliantly and scored 344 runs in 14 matches. In the last season played in the United Arab Emirates, Rana scored 352 runs after playing 14 matches. In 2019 and 2020, Rana had scored three fifties.
Have the power to play in every position
Rana thus bats in the middle order, but last season he also batted openly according to the need of the team. Here too, he did not disappoint the team. Rana opened the innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored 68 runs off 47 balls. It is more important for Rana to play for the team and hence he is not afraid to change his batting order as per the need of the team. Rana is also a part time spinner. He also has a total of seven wickets in the IPL. He took three wickets in the 2019 season and four wickets in 2018.
