Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly have given opposite statements on the issue of change in the captaincy of the Indian ODI team. Due to this the working style of BCCI is under question.
Virat Kohli had left the T20 captaincy a few months back.
Indian Test team captain Virat Kohli said on December 15 that he was informed about an hour and a half before the team’s announcement about leaving the ODI captaincy. He made this disclosure in the press conference before leaving for South Africa tour. After this statement of Virat Kohli, BCCI Sourav Ganguly came under the scanner. Ganguly had said on the removal of Kohli from the ODI captaincy that he had asked Virat not to give up the T20 captaincy but he did not agree.
After Kohli’s press conference, many questions are being raised on the working style of BCCI. Along with this, allegations of misrepresentation are also being faced on Ganguly. Meanwhile, news agency PTI has reported that the BCCI had spoken to Kohli on Kohli’s decision to step down from T20 captaincy. This was discussed during a meeting. Nine people were present in it. According to a PTI report, a senior BCCI official claimed that nine people were involved when Kohli was asked whether it would be appropriate to step down as the T20 captain. These include five selectors, President Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah, Captain Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Kohli’s decision surprised
It is said that this meeting took place in the UAE in the second half of IPL 2021. In this, all the people met through virtual meeting. However, it was not decided then that Kohli would leave the captaincy before the T20 World Cup. So when Kohli took this step before the T20 World Cup, it was a surprise for the board as well. He had informed about his separation from T20 captaincy citing workload management.
Ganguly angry with Kohli’s statement
PTI has written that after Virat Kohli’s statement in the press conference, it is understood that Ganguly is very angry. But as board chairman, he would be in favor of taking a collective decision. An experienced board official told PTI, “It is a very complicated issue for the BCCI. If the board issues the statement, it will prove the captain false. If the statement is not issued, then questions will arise on the chairman. The board has suffered a lot due to Kohli’s statement and the problem is that the lack of communication is clearly visible.
