Usually players make their debut in ODI format and then get a chance to play Test cricket. However, this was not the case with Kaif. Kaif played for three teams in domestic cricket. He was associated with the Uttar Pradesh team till the year 2014. He left the captaincy of Uttar Pradesh in 2014 and joined Andra Pradesh team.
