MI vs DC IPL 2022: After Delhi’s defeat, Bangalore made it to the playoffs as the fourth team with 16 points, while Delhi finished fifth with 14 points.
Mumbai Indians ended IPL 2022 in a spectacular manner. Mumbai, out of the tournament, defeated Delhi Capitals in their last match of the tournament to not only finish the season with victory, but also took the blessings of Royal Challengers Bangalore and its fans on the way as Rohit Sharma’s team continued its success. Along with this, Bangalore was included in the title race. Mumbai beat Delhi by 5 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, which ended Delhi’s journey this season, while Bangalore got the advantage, which has reached the playoffs. However, despite this victory, Mumbai ended the season as the last team.
Two big mistakes of Rishabh Pant
There were two such occasions in the match when Delhi’s hold was strong, but both times captain Rishabh Pant made such mistakes, which surprised everyone. The first incident happened in the 12th over. Kuldeep Yadav took the wicket of Ishan Kishan in this over and then Devald Brevis played a slog sweep on the fifth ball, but the ball rose high in the air in front of the wicket itself. Pant had a chance to take an easy catch, but he also squandered this very ordinary opportunity. Brevis did not last long, but before getting out, he hit a six. Incidentally, when Brevis got out, Pant made another mistake at the same time. After being dismissed by Shardul Thakur, Tim David came to the crease and appealed for a catch against him on the first ball, but the umpire did not give out and Pant also did not take a review. Then replays showed that the ball had passed by touching the bat.
Bumrah did Delhi’s bad condition
Delhi needed a big score in this match, for which it needed a fast start, but it was not possible. In the powerplay itself, Jasprit Bumrah made Delhi’s condition thin by taking two wickets. Opener Prithvi Shaw, who was returning after recovering from typhoid, took some good shots in the beginning, but wickets were falling from the other side. Daniel Sams gave Mumbai the first breakthrough by dismissing David Warner in the third over. In the very next over, Bumrah got Mitchell Marsh caught by Rohit Sharma. After this, in the sixth over, he got Shaw caught by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan on a crisp bouncer and 3 wickets fell for just 31 runs.
Pavel takes over the team
From here, captain Rishabh Pant played the role of the initiator and together with Rovman Powell handled the innings. Powell took 20 runs in the 12th over by hitting two sixes and a four to Hrithik Shokeen. In the next over, he hit Mayank for a six. Meanwhile, Riley Meredith conceded only two runs by putting an economical over in such a situation. Both of them took the team out of trouble by sharing 75 runs in 44 balls. For Delhi to make it to the playoffs, this match has to be won at any cost. Powell scored 43 in 34 balls and captain Rishabh Pant scored 39 runs in 33 balls and took the team to 159 runs. For Mumbai, Bumrah took three wickets for 25 runs in four overs.
