Shefali Verma, Captain, Opener: The Rohtak-based U-19 captain is one of the hottest players in the team, having already played three World Cup finals at the senior level. In November 2019, at the age of 15 years 285 days, she became the youngest player to score a half-century in international cricket, surpassing her idol Sachin Tendulkar.
Shweta SehrawatOpening batsman: This girl from South Delhi joined cricket after trying her hand at volleyball, badminton and skating. Chasing the target of 69 runs in the title match, she returned to the pavilion early but her role was important in the team’s journey to the final. She finished as the top scorer with 297 runs in seven innings at an average of 99.00 and a strike rate of almost 140.
Saumya Tiwari, Vice Captain: Soumya, who started playing cricket with a thapi used by her mother to wash clothes, was initially not selected by her coach Suresh Chiyanani but later gave a chance to this batsman. He scored the winning runs during a seven-wicket victory against England in the final.
Trisha Reddy, Opening batsman: Trisha, a resident of Bhadrachalam in Telangana, is the daughter of former under-16 national hockey player, Gongadi Reddy. As a child, he impressed his father with his eye-hand coordination, who sold his four-acre ancestral land to fund his cricketing ambitions.
Rishita Basu, Alternate wicketkeeper: Like many other players, Rishita started off as a street cricketer. The Howrah resident of Kolkata took full advantage of it after getting a chance to debut against New Zealand in November.
Richa Ghosh, wicketkeeper-batsman: Richa is an aggressive batsman with wicketkeeper. She idolises Mahendra Singh Dhoni but it was her father Manvendra Ghosh who helped her hone her power game. He made headlines last month by playing crucial innings of 36 and 26 in India’s T20 International series against Australia.
Titas Sadhu, Pacer: His family runs an age group club. She used to go as a scorer with the club’s cricket team at the age of 10. Among the star players of the final, Titas is following the path of her state Bengal legend Jhulan Goswami. She bowls at high pace, gets bounce and can swing the ball both ways. She wanted to become an athlete like her father. He scored 93 per cent in his 10th board exams but dropped out to pursue a career in cricket.
Sonam Yadav, Left-arm spinner: Mukesh Kumar, father of this 15-year-old spinner from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, works in a glass factory. She first started playing with boys and seeing her interest, Mukesh connected his daughter with an academy. Sonam, who started as a batsman, started bowling on the advice of her coach.
Mannat Kashyap, Left-arm spinner: Mannat, who bowls fast in the air, has a better action than Sonam. Hailing from Patiala, the player grew up playing street cricket with boys and started taking up the game seriously at the behest of a relative.
Archana Devi, Off-spin all-rounder: Archana, who lost her father due to cancer even before the start of her cricket journey, was born in a poor family in Ratai Purva village of Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. One day his brother Budhiram died due to a snake bite while looking for the ball on Archana’s shot. It was his brother who had expressed his desire for Archana to become a cricketer.
Parshvi Chopra, Leg spinner: This Bulandshahr girl was interested in skating but also loved watching cricket. After failing in the first attempt, he was selected in the state trials a year later. He took 11 wickets in six matches in the World Cup and took four wickets for five runs against Sri Lanka.
Falak Naz, Fast bowling all-rounder: Falak did not get a chance to play a single match in the tournament but in the practice match against Australia, this fast bowler gave only 11 runs in three overs while bowling economically but did not get a wicket. His father Nasir Ahmed works in a school in Uttar Pradesh and his mother is a homemaker.
hurley gala, All-rounder: Born in a Gujarati family in Mumbai, Hurley made his debut with the senior team at the age of 15. He caught the attention of the people by taking the wickets of Shefali Verma and Deepti Sharma in the domestic match.
Sonia MedhiyaBatting all-rounder: Sonia of Haryana played four matches in the tournament but did not get any wicket. He gave 30 runs in five overs.
Shabbam MD, Fast bowler: This 15-year-old fast bowler from Visakhapatnam played two matches and took one wicket. His father is in the Navy and he was also a fast bowler.
