The road for Kolkata Knight Riders is not going to be easy but team batsman Dinesh Karthik is confident that his team will qualify for the IPL 2021 play-off by winning six out of the remaining seven matches. The first leg of IPL 2021 was not good for the two-time former champions KKR and the team was able to win just two of the seven matches. KKR’s team is at the bottom of the points table. The rest of the IPL season will start in the UAE in the next few days. Karthik told KKR’s website, ‘We want to win six matches out of seven (to qualify). This is a common thing. This is our goal as a team. Will focus on one match at a time but will try to win six matches out of the next seven.
The Ouen Morgan-led team will resume their campaign in IPL 2021 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 20 September. In IPL 2020, KKR’s team failed to make it to the knockout due to poor net run rate. Karthik said, ‘Last year when we played in the UAE, we missed (by qualifying in the play-offs) by a small margin. We won as many matches as the last team that qualified but still could not make it to the knockouts. For two consecutive years, we were at the fifth position in the points table. It still hurts me.’

Karthik, who returned with KKR after a successful career as a commentator in Britain, insisted that the team would focus on the positives and continue to play aggressive cricket. He said, ‘KKR is known for playing positive and aggressive cricket. I want that kind of game to happen in the second half. I still think the team spirit is good. We are positive and we have a coach who always infuses good things in us. However, in the second half, Dinesh Karthik will also have to focus on his own form. His bat did not play much in the first half of the seven matches. He could score 123 runs in seven matches. During this, not a single fifty was hit by his bat. Also his strike rate was also near 138.
