England captain Joe Root won the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of August. He achieved this success due to his brilliant batting in the recently held Test series against India. Joe Root overtook star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi for this award. In the women’s category, Ireland’s all-rounder Eimear Richardson was adjudged the best player of the month. Ameer beat his teammate Gabby Lewis and Thailand’s Nataya Bouchetham.

Root scored 507 runs in three Tests against India in August, including three centuries. Due to this performance, he also reached the top of the ranking of ICC Test batsmen. The five-match Test series ended midway when the fifth and final Test had to be canceled due to COVID-19 cases in the Indian team. Former South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy, who is a member of the ICC’s Voting Academy, said in a statement, “I am impressed that between expectations and responsibility as captain, he led with the bat and became the number one batsman in the world.”

Emier performed brilliantly in the Women’s T20 World Cup Europe qualifier last month for which she was adjudged the player of the tournament. He took seven wickets in the tournament giving away runs at an economy rate of 4.19. He took two for six in the first match against Germany and two for 24 against group toppers Scotland. He took two for no runs against France and one for 22 against the Netherlands. Ireland’s team finished second in the group.

Eymer scored a total of 76 runs in the tournament, including a 49-ball 53 in the final match against the Netherlands. “It was exciting to be named as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August and it’s wonderful to be chosen as the winner now,” Emier said. Zimbabwe’s Pomi Mbangwa also praised Amier’s performance at the ICC Voting Academy.
