ISL: FC Goa breaks NorthEast United’s dream of winning, 1-1 draw

Goa FC got one point after the draw of this match and have moved up one place from ninth to eighth position.

Indian Super League (ISL) NorthEast United FC on Friday in (NorthEast United FC) and FC Goa (FC Goa) The match played between the two sides at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolin ended in a 1-1 draw. Both the goals of the match were scored in the first half while in the second half both the teams could not score the second goal even after all their efforts and hence both the teams were forced to share the points. Coach Derrick Pereira’s team Goa got one point from this draw and they have moved up one place from ninth to eighth position. They have 13 points in 11 matches from three wins and four draws.

On the other hand, despite getting one point, NorthEast United remains in tenth place. Coach Khalid Jameel’s team has scored nine points from 11 matches with two wins and three draws. By the way, Goa dominated in this match which was a draw. His players played more aggressive football. FC Goa’s Spanish forward Jorge Ortiz was awarded the Hero of the Match award for his outstanding aggressive football display.

The goal was scored in the second minute itself.

The first goal of the match came in the second minute, when a brilliant kick from captain Hernan Centena took NorthEast United 1-0 ahead. The Spanish midfielder scored this goal on a free-kick. The NorthEast captain made a fine right footer kick from about 25 yards outside the box to send the ball inside the goalpost while Goa goalkeeper Dheeraj Moirangthem could not defend despite diving to the right. This golden opportunity in the form of a free kick was made due to a sliding tackle by Goa defender Leander D’Cunha against Centena. Leander got the yellow card due to this foul.

After scoring the goal in the very beginning, the Goa team was impatient for the equalisation. He got this success in the 39th minute. In this minute, Goa FC leveled 1-1 with a header from Airam Cabrera. A left footer from Alberto Noguera on a corner kick on the right flank came straight to Cabrera, whereupon the Spanish striker hit a header from the second post to put the ball inside the first post and NorthEast United’s Deshorn Brown jumped the ball despite the effort.
