The auction of IPL Media Rights is currently going on in Mumbai. Out of the four packages auctioned, two packages have been auctioned. BCCI is selling media rights till 2023 and 2027. Lots of money has gone into this auction. So far, TV rights and digital rights have been auctioned and from both these rights, BCCI will get an amount of 107 crores from a match. According to media reports, TV rights have been sold for 57.5 crores and digital rights have been sold for 50 crores. This auction has been done for two categories Package-A and Package-B. The total amount for these two categories is being told 45,255 crores. The total cost of Package-A is Rs 23,575 crore while the total cost of Package-B is Rs 21,680. Auction is pending.
Out of the four, only two packages have been auctioned and two more packages are left for auction. Rights of the playoff match and broadcast rights outside the Indian subcontinent are yet to be auctioned. If media reports are to be believed, the TV rights of IPL have gone to a different company and the digital rights to a different company.
Matches will come on different platforms!
TV rights are sold separately and digital rights have gone to a separate company. Although no official statement has been revealed about this yet, but if this happens then IPL matches will be seen on different platforms for the next five years. Till now, matches used to come on Star Sports and the digital platform of this channel Hotstar used to do online streaming. But this time it will not happen. But there is also a possibility of this not happening and the reason for this is a rule of this auction. The company receiving Package-A has the facility that it can bid for Package-B and it will start from one crore more than the bid price made by Package-B.
Package-A has the option of Package-C
Also, the company that buys Package-A will have the option to bid for Package-C as this package includes the rights for the playoffs. The auction of Packages C and D is yet to be decided as well as the bids for the winning companies. The names are yet to come. The situation is not clear on these things yet. This situation is likely to be cleared by tonight and it will be known where IPL matches can be watched.
