According to Shah, the auction of 5 franchises of WPL has left behind the total bid in the auction of 8 franchises of IPL in 2008.
In January 2008, a total of $723.59 million was bid for the 8 IPL franchises. In January 2008, the value of the rupee against the dollar was 39.39. That is, then BCCI had earned about Rs 2850 crore from the auction of 8 franchises.

Despite this, two things are worth noting here, which make this achievement of WPL special. First- Compared to IPL, only 5 teams were auctioned instead of 8. In such a situation, earning so much in the first time itself is a big deal.
