The day of Wednesday 25 January has been added as a new chapter in the history of not only Indian cricket but also women’s cricket. A day which made the cricket world realize the popularity of women’s cricket, its possibilities and its emerging power economically. On Wednesday, January 25, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the lines of the Indian Premier League women’s premier league (WPL) announced the auction of the teams, which also broke the record of IPL in terms of earnings.
After waiting for several months, finally on Wednesday, the BCCI has told that from which 5 cities the teams of the Women’s Premier League will be prepared. Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Lucknow got franchises in the BCCI auction, in which Adani Sportsline bought the most expensive franchise of Ahmedabad with a bid of Rs 1289 crore.
today’s big news
1800 crores more
The auction of these 5 franchises has apparently brought a huge amount of money to the BCCI. BCCI told that in total they have earned Rs 4669.99 crore from this auction. With this information, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah also told the most shocking thing. According to Shah, the auction of 5 franchises of WPL has left behind the total bid in the auction of 8 franchises of IPL in 2008.
In January 2008, a total of $723.59 million was bid for the 8 IPL franchises. In January 2008, the value of the rupee against the dollar was 39.39. That is, then BCCI had earned about Rs 2850 crore from the auction of 8 franchises.
That’s why this amount is special
Obviously, today the value of rupee is very high compared to dollar and in such a situation, the price of IPL auction today would have been even higher. Despite this, two things are worth noting here, which make this achievement of WPL special. First- Compared to IPL, only 5 teams were auctioned instead of 8. That is, if 3 more franchisees were sold, the price would have been higher. Second, the market for women’s cricket is still much smaller than that of men’s cricket. In such a situation, earning so much in the first time itself is a big deal.

Crore) has got the franchisee. In this, the franchise of Bangalore and Delhi has come in the account of RCB and DC with IPL. At the same time, IndiaWin Sports, which has won the franchise of Mumbai, is also a part of Reliance Industry, which has Mumbai Indians in IPL.
