Only four matches have been played in IPL 2022. The season has just started. Many teams are still waiting for their first match. The players and management of every team are keeping an eye on how the pitch is behaving. With what strategy are the teams going on the field moving forward? What strategy are experienced players playing with? Understanding the mood of the pitch is a little easier this time because all the matches will be played in only four stadiums. Of these, three are in the ground in Mumbai and one in Pune. That is, everything is going to be the same in terms of weather. The difference between nineteen and twenty will be in the mood of the pitch.

A ‘trend’ is clearly visible in the success of fast bowling after the first four matches. That trend is ‘hard length’ bowling. This strategy was clearly visible in the bowling of Mohammad Shami of Gujarat Titans, Varun Aaron and Dushmant Chamira of Lucknow Super Giants. Which they benefited tremendously.

What is hard length bowling?

Generally bowling on hard length is done in Test cricket. Which is about three-fourths of the length of the pitch. Bringing the bowling of the length of Test cricket into T20 is a risky task. This is because if there is no bounce in the pitch, then the batsmen comfortably hit fours and sixes on the bowling of this length. But if the fast bowler is getting bounce from the pitch, then this length becomes the strength of the bowlers. A hard length ball becomes more dangerous when the bowler in front is bowling at a speed of 140 kmph. After hitting the ball, it comes in very fast. Knowing and playing it is a very challenging task for the batsman. This was clearly visible in the match between Gujarat and Lucknow on Monday. The fast bowlers who got success mostly took wickets on hard length balls.

Shami’s bowling is being praised a lot

In Monday’s match, Gujarat won the toss and gave Lucknow a chance to bat first. Mohammed Shami bowled amazingly for Gujarat. He first sent KL Rahul and then Quinton de Kock to the pavilion. The manner in which Shami sent these two batsmen to the pavilion is discussed everywhere today. Manish Pandey also fell victim to Mohammed Shami. Taking forward Shami’s strategy, Varun Aaron dismissed Evin Lewis and Ayush Badoni. Mohammed Shami took 3 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs. Varun Aaron proved to be a bit expensive but he also took 2 important wickets for 45 runs. Dushmant Chamira also entered the field with the same strategy in Lucknow’s team. He also showed Shubman Gill the way to the pavilion in the very first over. In his very next over, he dismissed Vijay Shankar. Chamira took 2 wickets for 22 runs. The strategy is now clear for the fast bowlers in the coming match. Most of the wickets are of red clay where the fast bowler is sure to get bounce. Obviously the formula for success is also ready.
