Like every season of IPL, in addition to runs, wickets, fours and sixes, there were also some controversial developments (IPL 2022 Controversie), which made headlines this time and the league.
The Indian Premier League has completed another season and after a long time a new captain has got a chance to lift the trophy. Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the IPL 2022 title in his debut season itself. With the end of this season, now one will have to wait for the next year for the new season. By the way, in the IPL, the entire focus is only on the match on the field and every year many great matches and tremendous innings or bowling are seen. Along with all this, there is some controversy in almost every season and IPL 2022 is no different.
In this season of 10 teams and 74 matches, there were not many controversies, but there were some which definitely surprised. Due to the characters of these controversies, they were more shocking. Whether it was Delhi captain Rishabh Pant’s clash with the umpires or Ravindra Jadeja’s removal from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings, these controversies definitely grabbed attention. Let’s look at some such controversies-
4 controversies that made headlines for IPL 2022
- Rishabh Pant vs Umpire: This can be considered as the most controversial moment of IPL 2022. Known to be calm and happy-go-lucky, the star Indian wicketkeeper and Delhi Capitals captain was seen losing his cool for the first time. In the match against Rajasthan Royals, Delhi needed 36 runs in the last over, which seemed difficult, but Rovman Powell had scored 3 consecutive sixes. However, the third ball was a full toss, which was not considered a no-ball by the umpires, while the Delhi camp was adamant in calling it a no-ball. On this, Pant and other Delhi players sitting in the dugout got furious. Pant had even signaled his players to come back and then sent the team’s assistant coach Praveen Amre to the field. Pant’s behavior was criticized a lot and the entire match fee was deducted.
- CSK’s captaincy controversy:Before this season, MS Dhoni had left the captaincy and Ravindra Jadeja was made the captain, but the team lost 6 out of the first 8 matches. After this the captaincy was changed and then Dhoni was made the captain. Although this never came out in the open, but news came out from inside that Jadeja was very unhappy with such removal in the middle season. Then he also got injured and he was out of the last matches. Since then questions are being raised whether Jadeja will be a part of CSK next year or not.
- Shreyas Iyer’s statement: Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders did not get much success and the team missed out on qualifying for the playoffs, but before the end of the season one of his statements created a ruckus. After the victory against Mumbai, Shreyas had said that apart from the coach and captain, the CEO is also involved in the team selection. After the questions raised on this, Shreyas clarified in the next match that the CEO lives to increase the courage of the dropped players.
- Sunil Gavaskar’s controversial comment: India’s great batsman and former captain Sunil Gavaskar has been an important part of the IPL commentary panel and was also this time. However, one of his statements surprised everyone. Gavaskar was on commentary when Shimron Hetmyer came out to bat in Rajasthan’s last league match against Chennai Super Kings. During this, he said, Hetmyer’s wife has delivered, will Hetmyer now be able to deliver for Rajasthan. In fact, a few days before this match, Hetmyer’s wife had given birth to their first child and Gavaskar was pointing towards her. Gavaskar had to face fierce criticism for this statement.
