Punjab Kings batsman Jonny Bairstow played an important role in the team’s victory by scoring a quick 66 off 29 balls against RCB. He thrashed RCB fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mohammad Siraj fiercely.
In the 60th match of IPL 2022, Punjab Kings won a massive 54-run victory over Royal Challengers. The script of this victory was written by Jonny Bairstow, whose swashbuckling batting did not even give Bangalore time to breathe. Bairstow gave the team a great start by hitting 66 runs in just 29 balls and Punjab managed to score 209 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Bangalore’s team could only score 155 runs. Let us tell you that Jonny Bairstow was failing in the middle order this season, after which captain Mayank Agarwal left his place and got him to open and after that the English batsman did not look back.
Jonny Bairstow hasn’t opened a lot for England recently but is enjoying the role of an opener for Punjab Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Bairstow said in the post-match press conference, ‘I am happy with the way I have adjusted to the opener. I am really enjoying playing at the top order again.
Score two consecutive half-centuries as an opener
Bairstow could only score one run in the first match as an opener against Gujarat Titans but after that he returned to form with 56 against Rajasthan Royals and then 66 on Friday. In the last two years, Bairstow has batted in the middle order most of the time in T20 Internationals for England but has also opened the innings in some matches. When Jos Buttler is not playing, Bairstow also plays the role of wicketkeeper. Bairstow said, ‘Playing for England and playing here are two completely different things. For England in the middle order, I have to play a different role and here you can see the statistics that I am enjoying opening the innings.
Livingston also batted with a bang
Let us tell you that only Bairstow did not wreak havoc against Bangalore. After him, Liam Livingston also did wonders as soon as he landed on the crease. This right-handed batsman scored 70 runs in 42 balls. Livingston hit 4 sixes and 7 fours in his innings.
