Rajasthan’s director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara defended Riyan Parag. Sangakkara said that Riyan Parag is very talented and next year he will be given a chance in the top order.
Rajasthan Royals performed brilliantly throughout the IPL but got a crushing defeat in the title battle. Gujarat Titans won IPL 2022 by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets. In this season, Jos Buttler batted amazingly for the team of Rajasthan, he won the Orange Cap. Yuzvendra Chahal (Riyan Parag) showed strength in bowling, he won the Purple Cap. But some players of the team also disappointed a lot, one of which is named Riyan Parag. Riyan Parag could not leave his mark in neither batting nor bowling. However, he proved his mettle as a fielder. He was the fielder with the most catches in this season. But questions are being raised once again on Riyan Parag’s batting. However, Rajasthan Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara is strong in support of this young player.
Sangakkara came to the rescue of Riyan Parag
Kumar Sangakkara told that Riyan Parag is a very talented player and in the next season he will be given the role of middle order batsman instead of finisher. Kumar Sangakkara said, ‘We made a lot of reforms this year. Butler, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer performed well in the batting. Riyan Parag and Padikkal have played well on a few occasions but we also need players to support us.
Kumar Sangakkara said, ‘I think Riyan Parag has a lot of talent and we will give him a chance in the upper order next season. I want to make him a middle order batsman and not a batsman hitting in the death overs. I think apart from pace, he also plays spin well.
Riyan Parag’s performance in IPL 2022
Riyan Parag has scored 183 runs in 17 matches at an average of 16.64 in this season. His strike rate was definitely more than 138 but he failed on important occasions. Let us tell you that for the third consecutive season, there have been flops. Last year, Parag scored 93 runs in 10 innings at an average of just 11.62. In the year 2020, Parag scored only 86 runs in 8 innings at an average of 12.28. Clearly Parag has failed with the bat for the last three years. Not only this, this year Parag bowled a total of 4 overs in the bowling and he gave away 59 runs. Economy rate was 14.75 runs per over. The figures are not confirming Parag’s talent, but if a great player like Sangakkara is telling him as talented, then maybe there will be something in Riyan Parag.
