Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson (Kane Richardson) believes that due to the abandonment of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year due to COVID-19, he and spinner Adam Zampa (Adam ZampaIPL 2022 auction this year (IPL 2022 Auction) was not bought by any of the franchisees. No franchise showed interest in these two players in last week’s auction. Richardson was more surprised when Zampa did not get the contract. Both these players were part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the last season. But then both these players left the tournament midway citing Corona cases. Shortly after the departure of these two, the BCCI had also suspended the IPL.
Richardson said, ‘I was actually more surprised about that. To be honest, I remember the conversation I had with him when we left (IPL) last year. I told him look later we may have to suffer from this but our priority at that time was not to be there. We wanted to go back to Australia. So I had a feeling that buyers would be careful in buying us as they would think that we might not come again. I definitely think this is the reason.’
Richardson did not play even in IPL 2022
This right-arm fast bowler could not even play in IPL 2020 due to the birth of his child. He said that due to all these reasons such an atmosphere was created that he does not come to play. Richardson said, ‘I think even a year ago I did not go due to the birth of a son. So in the last two years my image has become such that I do not come to play. But I am not like that. I want to play more and more cricket. But in the last two IPLs, the situation was such that I could not go.
Australian spinner Ashton Agar also expressed surprise over Zampa not getting the contract. He said, ‘I think he was unlucky. IPL auction is a very cruel place. Not many good players are selected. There are many surprises every year.
