IPL 2021: Sunil Gavaskar praised Virat Kohli, said – he gave RCB amazing recognition

RCB की कप्तानी के तजुर्बे पर खुलकर बोले विराट कोहली, 4 बातों की ओर दिलाया खास ध्यान

Virat Kohli was the captain of RCB for 9 years

Veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has favored Virat Kohli amid criticism for not winning the IPL title. He said that Kohli has given Royal Challengers Bangalore the kind of recognition that very few cricketers have been able to give to their franchise team. Kohli’s dream of winning an IPL title for RCB as captain came to an end with a loss in the Eliminator match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday. He has already announced that he will no longer captain this team. Former India opener Gavaskar said that not everything happens the way the players want.

“He has given RCB the kind of recognition and brand recognition that very few cricketers have given to their franchises,” Gavaskar told ‘Star Sports’. The former India captain compared Kohli’s last match as RCB captain to the departure of Donald Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar. He said, ‘Everyone wants to finish things on top. These things don’t always go the way you or the fans want. Look what happened to Sir Don Bradman. Only four runs were needed in his last innings and he got out for a duck. Sachin Tendulkar wanted to finish with a century, he scored 79 (Tendulkar scored 74) in his 200th Test in Mumbai.

Kohli became the captain of RCB in 2013

Regarding Kohli’s failure to win the IPL trophy, Gavaskar said that Kohli has always been an influence on the team. He also mentioned the 2016 season when he scored close to 1000 runs in this league. He said, ‘Things do not go according to you but there was a year when he scored 973 runs, 27 runs less than 1000 runs. No one has done this, no one has ever been in a situation like scoring 1000 runs in this league.

Kohli became the captain of the team in 2013 and under his leadership, RCB managed to reach the playoffs four times. In this, apart from the last two seasons, the team reached the final in 2016. Under the captaincy of Kohli, the team played 140 matches, out of which it got success in 66. During this, the team had to face defeat in 70 matches while the result of four matches did not come out.
