IPL 2021: Virat Kohli will undoubtedly be counted among the best captains in the world, whether he wins the IPL trophy or not.
Virat Kohli is the captain of RCB since IPL 2013.
Virat Kohli is counted among the world’s most successful captains. Under his leadership, the Indian team has achieved a lot of success. These include winning the Test series in Australia, the T20 in England and New Zealand, and the ODI-T20 series in South Africa. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India has also been number one in both Test-ODIs. But when this player gets down to play IPL, then such success is not able to show there. Virat Kohli became the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain in IPL 2013 and has been the head of the team ever since. But under his captaincy, the team has only reached the final once. Apart from this, the playoffs have been played twice. So what is the reason that Kohli is yet to make RCB the champion under his captaincy? While Rohit Sharma, who became the captain of Mumbai Indians, has won the trophy five times.
A big reason for RCB not becoming champion yet is not showing confidence in the players. The team collects and withdraws players from the wholesale price in almost every season. Except for a few players, most of the players have not been able to stay with the team for long. Only three names are seen in the core players of RCB. These include the names of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Yuzvendra Chahal. A fourth name appears there. Even before the IPL 2021 auction, RCB removed more than 10 players. It has often been seen that RCB seems to run after the tried names of other teams instead of finding new talent by themselves.
RCB is losing its trust heavily
See as an example- Pawan Negi had played well for Chennai Super Kings. In such a situation, in 2017 RCB took this player for one crore rupees. Here he stayed for four years but played only 21 matches. During this, he took 20 wickets and scored 156 runs. Most of these matches, runs and wickets came in IPL 2017 itself. For the rest of the season, they were like spectators. A similar story is seen with Shane Watson. When the Rajasthan Royals were banned in 2016, Watson was bought by RCB for nine and a half crores. In this season, he took the maximum 20 wickets for RCB. Then in 2017, he also became the captain of the team in some matches. But he was released in 2018. In IPL 2018, Watson went to Chennai Super Kings and scored 555 runs and took six wickets. Scored a century in the finals and became CSK champion. There are many such players.
One to one players removed from the team
Names like Chris Maurice, Quinton Deacock, KL Rahul were once part of RCB. But Kohli and RCB could not trust them. Rahul was released in 2018. Kings XI Punjab bought him for 11 crores and today he is the captain there. Also, in the last three seasons, he remains in the top batsmen in scoring consecutive runs. This fact will surprise the RCB when Sarfaraz Khan was retained while Rahul was released. DeCock was also released by the team and since then he has been a part of the winning team with Mumbai twice. The same situation happened in the case of Maurice. He had played well in the IPL 2020, yet he was released.
Lack of good bowlers
This has been a major reason for RCB’s failure. It is not that the team did not have good bowlers but they did not last long. Names like Mitchell Starc, Dale Steyn have played for this player. But when they were, the other bowlers were not as competitive. The team has two good spinners in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar but Kohli has never been able to use Sundar properly. Sundar proved himself to be a great powerplay bowler while playing in Rising Pune Supergiant but Kohli could not use him in this way.
Disturbances in team balance
RCB has always seen that its batting order is quite heavy at the top but completely hollow in the middle and lower middle. Because of this, the team often fails to finish the match. On many occasions even after a good start, the match has been slipping out of hand due to not having a useful batsman in the lower order.
Behind in giving chance and confidence to new faces
Mumbai Indians is the most successful team in the IPL under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. This team has become the winner five times. Mumbai’s success lies in its trust in its young faces. Youths like Hardik-Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Jaspreet Bumrah are the lives of Mumbai and are the basis of victory. All of them are arrogant of T20 cricket. How many new players have been given by RCB to the Indian T20 team in the last eight years? Apart from Yuzvendra Chahal and Navdeep Saini, no third name is remembered. While players like Shivam Dubey, Himmat Singh, Shahbaz Ahmed, Kulwant Khejroliya, Gurkeerat Singh Mann have played in this team. But either they did not get opportunities or they were not trusted by the team management.
Virat Kohli will undoubtedly be counted among the best captains of the world, whether he wins the IPL Trophy or not. But winning the IPL Trophy or ICC Trophy or Triangular Tournament will add stars to his leadership potential.
