There is not much time to start the second part of IPL 2021 and every team is busy in its preparations. Meanwhile, new players have also joined many teams because many players have withdrawn their names due to different reasons. One such player has also appeared in Punjab Kings, the name is – Aidan Markram. South Africa’s top-order aggressive batsman was included in place of world number one T20 batsman David Malan of England a day earlier. Now Markram’s main role is as a batsman and Punjab also included him in the team keeping this in mind, but the South African stalwart also showed his talent in bowling and gave Punjab a chance to be happy.
South Africa, playing the T20 series with Sri Lanka, lost the ODI series, but in the T20 series, the African team showed their strength in this format just before the T20 World Cup and took a 2-0 lead in the series and in this the team’s spinners. Had a special role. Aidan Markram and Tabrez Shamsi gave an easy victory to the team, revealing the praise of the Sri Lankan batsmen. Shamsi is currently creating panic around the world through his excellent spin, but apart from batting, Markram has also given a strong performance in his bowling, besides Punjab Kings, the African team has also given hope for the World Cup.
Sri Lanka battered by Markram’s bowling
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first in the match held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, 12 September, but the team never seemed to benefit from it. The team lost 5 wickets for 78 runs till the 11th over, out of which 3 wickets were taken by Markram. But, after this, the condition of the host team became thinner and the team lost the remaining 5 wickets for just 25 runs. Sri Lankan team was bundled out for just 103 runs in 18.1 overs.
For the African team, Shamsi took 3 wickets for just 20 runs in 4 overs, while Markram also conceded 21 runs in 4 overs and took 1 wicket. One of these overs was the wicket maiden.
Dekock’s Match-Winning Fifty
The target was not difficult for South Africa, but due to the presence of some excellent spinners with the Sri Lankan team, this target was not going to be easy. But experienced opener Quinton de Kock dismissed any such apprehensions. De Kock shared a tremendous 62-run partnership with Reeza Hendrix. Markram (21) who came to the crease after Hendrix’s dismissal, supported De Kock till the end and South Africa won the match by 9 wickets in just 14.1 overs. De Kock scored a fine half-century and remained unbeaten on 58.
