Mumbai Indians have a chance to reach the playoffs even after winning just one out of five matches in the UAE this season. KKR and Mumbai Indians are yet to play one group stage match each.
The Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is now about to reach its last stop. Now only four matches are to be played in the league stage. But who will be the fourth team in the playoff, it is still not clear. Because of this, the thrill of this league is at its peak. Three teams Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challenger Bangalore have qualified for the playoffs. The battle for the fourth position is going on between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians. KKR and Mumbai Indians are yet to play one group stage match each.
KKR has played 13 matches so far in IPL 2021. Out of these, he has won 6 and has to face defeat in seven matches. After playing 13 matches, Kolkata has got 12 points and its net run rate is +0.294.
On the other hand, the team of Mumbai Indians has returned to form at the last moment. In his last match, he defeated Rajasthan Royals in a bang and made a claim to reach the playoffs. Mumbai and Kolkata have equal points, but KKR is in a better position than Rohit’s Mumbai Indians in terms of net run rate. Mumbai’s run-rate is -0.048, due to which it is out of the top-four.
The equation for Kolkata is very simple. Won their last match against Rajasthan Royals and cement their place in the playoffs. With this win, he will have 14 points. Along with this, he will also get the benefit of better run rate. However, KR’s last match against Rajasthan Royals is not going to be easy.
Mumbai Indians have a chance to reach the playoffs even after winning just one out of five matches in the UAE this season. After defeating Rajasthan, he has kept alive his hopes of playing the final once again. Mumbai will reach the playoffs only if KKR lose their last match against Rajasthan. For this, Mumbai will have to win their last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
If both the teams win their last match then KKR can qualify on the basis of better run rate. At the same time, if both of them get defeated, then the run rate in the playoffs will reach KKR. If both Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals win their last match. Even if both Kolkata and Mumbai lose, Kolkata will still go ahead, as both Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals have a much lower run rate than Kolkata.
