Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most successful captains of IPL.
Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals will face each other in the first qualifiers of IPL 2021. Both the teams were in the top-2 in the points table. In the league stage, Delhi had defeated Chennai in both the matches but the matter would be different in the playoffs. Chennai has the experience of playing in the playoffs continuously. The team captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni has reached the playoffs for the 11th time. Also, he has played the final eight times. In contrast, Delhi has been doing consistently well for the last three seasons and is reaching the playoffs. Since the initial seasons, the game of the team was spoiled. Also this time the team is playing under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant who is captaining for the first time. In this sense, the whole game in the playoffs will be to bear the pressure.
But Chennai Super Kings will have to take every step against Delhi carefully. The most important of these is the batting position of Ravindra Jadeja. This left-handed player is in tremendous form at the moment. He has so far scored 2267 runs at a strike rate of 145.51. He is playing the role of a finisher well in all the matches he has got a chance. But in the last few matches it has been seen that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has come to bat above him. Dhoni has failed with the bat this season. His strike rate is only 95.04 and he has been able to score 96 runs. In such a situation, with the rise of Jadeja, the scoring rate of Chennai will also increase and the score will also go up. So far in IPL 2021, Jadeja has faced only 156 balls. It is clear from this that CSK has not been able to fully utilize Jadeja.
Dhoni’s slow batting was heavy against Delhi and Punjab
When Chennai and Delhi met for the last time in the IPL, then playing first, Chennai scored 136 runs for five wickets. In this, Dhoni could score 18 runs even after playing 27 balls. In the end, this innings was costly and Delhi won the match by three wickets. Had Jadeja been sent above Dhoni in that match, then perhaps CSK’s score would have been higher and the result of the match could have also changed. A similar game was also shown in the match against Punjab Kings, when Dhoni could score 12 runs after playing 15 balls. Now that the tournament has reached the playoffs, this type of batting can do serious damage. In all the matches that Chennai have won, their top order has played well, both Rituraj Gaikwad (533) and Faf du Plessis (546) are in tremendous form. But among the rest of the batsmen, there is only Jadeja who is in form.
In such a situation, in the first qualifier, the team of Chennai Super Kings would like that the old mistakes are not repeated. By doing this, Chennai can once again be seen in the title match before the mega auction.
