The preparations of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the Indian Premier League 2021 (IPL 2021) are in their final stages. All the teams have also started putting pressure on their training. IPL 2021 will begin in Chennai after just 8 days. Taking lessons from its shortcomings after the end of every season, the BCCI keeps making some changes to make the new season even better. This time too, the board has taken an important step to overcome a major shortcoming of the previous season. In the last 2 seasons, the biggest problem during the tournament was not being able to finish the matches in the stipulated time. The matches were prolonged due to the slow over rate, but this time the BCCI has made strict rules to eliminate it, which will have a big impact on the teams along with the players.

In the last 2 seasons of the IPL, complaints of not finishing the matches on time were often seen. From cricket experts to the media and fans also continued to express their displeasure on social media. Reports claimed that Star Sports, the broadcaster of the tournament, was also unhappy with the slow pace of the matches. Now recently, this situation was also seen in the T20 series between India and England.

Penalty of heavy fines and ban

Taking all these lessons, the BCCI has made strict rules to end the matches in the new season on time. Under this, the team will have to face heavy fines on the complaint of slow over speed. Not only this, a match ban will also be imposed on the captain for this mistake again and again. According to the new rules,

  1. For the first time, the captain will be fined Rs 12 lakh in case of slow over speed.
  2. The captain will have to pay a fine of Rs 24 lakh for repeating the same mistake for the second time. Apart from the captain, this time every player involved in playing XI (except captain) will have to pay a fine of Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of the match fee (whichever is less).
  3. For the third time (and every time thereafter), if the captain is found guilty of slow over-rate, the captain will have to pay a fine of Rs 30 lakh and will also face a match ban. At the same time, the rest of the players of the team will have to pay a penalty of Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of the match fee (whichever is less).

If the captain changed…

Not only this, the BCCI has also warned that if the captaincy is changed to save a captain from the crime for the third time, then the BCCI will have to tell it in writing. Till the BCCI does not get this information, then these rules will apply to that captain.
