Mumbai Indians missed the playoffs in IPL 2021 due to the difference in net run rate.
If there was any most shocking result in the league stage of IPL 2021, it was the defeat of Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians, who are two-time defending champions and won the title of this tournament five times, failed to qualify for the playoffs this time. This team, captained by Rohit Sharma, was again considered as the title contender, but in this volatile season, Mumbai had to bear the brunt of disappointing batting and the team could not qualify even after coming very close. The team’s journey is over and now a new team will be formed next year. In such a situation, Captain Rohit gave a special message on his behalf for the team and the fans, which is enough to fill the enthusiasm.
In the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mumbai registered a victory on the strength of their batting, but despite this, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs due to net run rate. The team equaled Kolkata Knight Riders by scoring 14 points in 14 matches, but their net run rate was much lower than that of KKR, due to which the team ended their season in fifth place. For the first time since the 2018 season, Mumbai was forced to drop out of the top 4.
14 matches cannot take away the achievements of 2-3 years
A day after the team’s exit from the tournament, Rohit praised his team by tweeting and said that this season alone is not the real recognition of this team’s past achievements, as this team won the title twice in a row and showed a great game. Rohit wrote in his tweet,
“A season full of ups and downs and lessons. But these 14 matches cannot erase the achievements made by this illustrious group in the last 2-3 seasons. Every player, who wore blue and gold (Mumbai jersey), played with full pride and gave his best. And that’s what makes us the team we are. a family.”

Last season of Mumbai’s great team
Apart from Rohit, this was probably the last season of this Mumbai team together with tremendous players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar and Ishan Kishan. After this season, there is going to be a big auction next year, in which two new teams will also be added and in such a situation there is every possibility of many players going to those teams or other teams. In such a situation, Mumbai will once again have to prepare a strong team with some old and some new players.
