World Championships bronze medalist Lakshya Sen on Thursday made it to the quarterfinals with a straight-game win against Rasmus Gemke of Denmark.
India’s budding badminton player Lakshya Sen on Friday in Indonesia Masters Super 500 tournament (Indonesia Masters) He was eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing to Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. World Championships bronze medalist Sen (Lakshya Sen) Chou made a good comeback in the second game, but third seed Chou of Chinese Taipei played better in the decider to register a 21-16, 12-21, 21-14 win in a match that lasted more than an hour. After Sen, PV Sindhu will also play her quarter-final match on Friday.
Sen’s second defeat to Chou in less than a month
This is Sen’s second consecutive defeat at the hands of Chou in less than a month. Sen lost to him 19-21, 21-13, 17-21 during the group stage of the Thomas Cup. World number four Chou scored three consecutive points in the deciding game to take a six-point lead till the break and then kept it up. Sen saved two match points, but that didn’t deter 32-year-old Chou, the 20-year-old Indian, from registering a win.
Lakshya defeated Gemke to make it to the quarterfinals
World Championships bronze medalist Lakshya Sen advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament with a straight-game win over Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke on Thursday. The 20-year-old Lakshya defeated world number 13 Gemke 21-18 21-15 in 54 minutes. Playing against Gemke for the first time in his international career, world No. 9 Lakshya showed more patience and curbed his mistakes and registered a win. In the second game, the match between the two players was more close. Most of the time, sometimes the goal was to make the game lead.
Sindhu had to struggle for the quarterfinals
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu had made it to the quarterfinals. Women’s singles Sindhu, however, had to struggle a bit. She defeated Gregoria Mariska Tunjang of Indonesia 23-21 20-22 21-11 in an hour-long second round match. B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa’s journey ended in mixed doubles after going down 18-21 13-21 to second seeded Chinese pair of Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiang in their second round match.
