The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) and the team have been struggling for stability for the past few years. The performance of the team has also been poor and there have been frequent leadership changes.

The Sri Lankan team, which is struggling with lack of stability and better performance, is now preparing for a series. Sri Lanka has to play a series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20 matches against India on its own land. For this, the Indian team has reached Sri Lanka, but the host team has not been announced yet. However, even before the announcement of the team, a big change is set and this change is in the captaincy. According to reports, Sri Lanka Cricket is going to make a change in the leadership of the team once again. All-rounder Dasun Shanaka is almost certain to be given the captaincy of the team in place of left-handed batsman Kusal Perera, who was the captain of the team on the England tour.
Sri Lanka had to face a crushing defeat on the England tour. In the T20 series, the team was wiped out 3-0. After that, the ODI series was also lost 2-0, while the third match was canceled. The team on this tour was captained by opener Perera, who was given the command of the team this year itself. Before him, Dimuth Karunaratne was also the captain of the ODI team. Under Perera’s captaincy, Sri Lanka also had to face defeat against Bangladesh. Under Perera’s captaincy, Sri Lanka could win only 1 match out of 9.
10th captain in 4 years!
Now before the crucial home series against India, the Sri Lankan team will once again go through a change of leadership. According to the report of the local newspaper, the team’s all-rounder Dasun Shanaka is set to be given the responsibility of the team. The 29-year-old all-rounder has so far played 28 ODIs and 43 T20Is for Sri Lanka. In ODIs, he has also taken 10 wickets with 611 runs, while in T20 548 runs and 11 wickets have come in the account. If Shanaka’s name is announced, then after 2017 he will be the 10th player to captain Sri Lanka.
2019 has done captaincy
Shanaka has previously captained the Sri Lankan team. In 2019, Sri Lanka won the T20 series against Pakistan under his captaincy. At present, the Sri Lankan board has not announced the team. The ODI series between India and Sri Lanka will start from July 13 and the T20 series from July 21.
