The second Test match is currently being played between India and England at Lord’s ground and the Indian innings came to an end on Friday, the second day of this match. England won the toss and elected to bat first. The visiting team scored 364 runs in their first innings with the help of opener Lokesh Rahul’s 129 runs, Rohit Sharma’s 83 runs. In this innings, where Rahul was being lit from India’s side, his most successful bowler James Anderson made a splash from England’s side. Anderson showed the way to the pavilion by dismissing batsmen like Rohit, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane. Anderson bowled 29 overs in this innings and took five wickets for 62 runs including seven maidens.
With this brilliant performance, Anderson also took a record in his name. He has become the oldest player in the last 70 years to take five or more wickets in an innings of a Test match. Anderson hit the punch at the age of 39 years and 14 days in this match being played at Lord’s ground. 70 years ago i.e. in 1951, Geoff Chubb of South Africa took six wickets for 51 runs against England in Manchester. Then his age was 40 years 86 days.
Coin runs against India at Lord’s
India is a team against whom Anderson has done well, especially at the Lord’s ground, the Mecca of cricket. From 2007 till today, Anderson has harassed and hunted Indian batsmen on the pitch of this ground. In 2007, Anderson took five wickets for 42 runs in the first innings of the Test match played at this ground against India. So in the second innings, two wickets for 83 runs. In 2011, he took two wickets for 87 runs in the first innings and five wickets for 65 runs in the second innings. In 2014, Anderson made Indian batsmen his victim. This year he took four wickets in the first innings and one wicket in the second innings. In India’s last tour of England in 2018 also in the first innings of the match played at this ground, the right-arm bowler took five wickets in the first innings and took four wickets in the second innings as well. On this tour too, he has punched in the first innings on this ground.
