The Indian team got off to a good start in the Border-Gavaskar series with a big win in the Nagpur Test. An innings and 132-run defeat in the very first Test has put Australia on the backfoot. Before the start of the series, the Australian team was very worried about the pitch. The turning balls turned the Australian batsmen in such a way that they did not know when the match went out of their hands. Where the players of another visiting team were seen cursing the pitch, on the other hand the players of Team India were seen calling it just an excuse for the Australian batsmen.
Before coming to Nagpur, the Australian batsmen were worried about what they would do if the ball turned more. The pitch on which Australia scored 177 runs in the first innings and just 91 runs in the second innings, on the same pitch Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 120 runs alone. After the match, Rohit told how to play on such a pitch and this is an important lesson for Australia.
Rohit reveals the secret
Talking about his batting after the match, Rohit said, ‘The kind of pitch we have been playing on in India in the last few years, it is important that you do what you are thinking. Ever since I started opening, I have always tried to find out what scares me. I have played from Mumbai where pitches turn a lot. You have to understand the pitch of the ball using your feet and then put pressure on the bowler.
It is important to understand your strength
He further said, ‘You cannot give the bowler a chance to bowl six balls of the over at the exact point. You have to try something different. Whether it is sweep, reverse sweep or anything else, you can do a lot of things. You have to understand your strength. There is no need to be like someone else. I understood what I can do well and then went on the field and did the same.
