The FIFA World Cup 2022 to be held in Qatar is going to start from Sunday. 8 stadiums of Qatar are going to host this tournament. This is the first time that the World Cup is being held in winter. Apart from this, there is one more thing that will happen for the first time in the FIFA World Cup. This is the first time that a ‘transportable stadium’ will be used in a World Cup. (AFP)
‘Transportable Stadium’ means that stadium which can be completely dismantled and shifted elsewhere after use. It can be rebuilt at a new location. Qatar has named this stadium as ‘Stadium 974’. 974 is the telephone code for Qatar. (AFP)
Another reason behind the name 974 is that this stadium has been built with the help of 974 shipping containers. It will be dismantled after the World Cup. This stadium is at the port of Ras Abu Abud, Doha. Apart from the media room, bathroom, dressing room, there are also stride boxes and broadcasting rooms. (AFP)
The stadium has been designed in such a way that air will keep coming from outside and there is no need of AC. The fans coming from Hamad airport will first see this stadium. The first match in this stadium will be played between Mexico and Poland on 22 November. (AFP)
Starting from Sunday, this World Cup will last for about a month. A total of 32 teams are participating in this mega event along with the defending champions France. These teams have been divided into eight groups of four each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the next round.(AFP)
