We all know what Mahendra Singh Dhoni has done for India as a captain. Dhoni took over the captaincy of Team India at a very young age and made him a champion in every format. He is the only captain of India to win three ICC trophies. His records are enough to prove that he is not only one of the great captains of the country but also of the world. The biggest hand in getting the captaincy to Mahendra Singh Dhoni was of the great batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin Tendulkar had a lot of faith in Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He trusted his decisions and opinions a lot. Even though the captaincy of the team was in the hands of Rahul Dravid, but Sachin used to first try to know Dhoni’s opinion on everything. Sachin first saw the qualities of captaincy in Dhoni and then recommended his name to the BCCI.
Sachin recommended Dhoni
During a program, Tendulkar told that when he was asked to captain, he forwarded Dhoni’s name. He told, “We were in England, at the same time I was offered the captaincy. I told him that we have a very good leader in the team, he is still a junior but he is someone you should watch closely.
Sachin used to take advice from Dhoni, not Dravid
Sachin told that he told the board officials, “I had a lot of conversations with him, especially when I am fielding in the first slip in the field. I ask him what does he think? The captain of the team was Rahul Dravid but I ask Dhoni for his opinion. Whenever I asked him questions, I got very balanced, calm, and very mature answers.

Master Blaster further said, “Good captaincy means that you stay one step ahead of the opposition. If someone plays sensibly, not with enthusiasm, then he is a good captain. But it doesn’t happen instantly, you won’t get 10 wickets in 10 balls. You have to plan for it. At the end of the day, the scoreboard counts. And I saw all these qualities in Dhoni and hence recommended his name.
