The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) is being handled by the Committee of Administrators, which announced the teams last week, but since then there has been a controversy over it.
About one and a half months are left for this year’s Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022) to be held in Birmingham. The games are to start at the end of July and in such a situation the teams of different events participating in them have either been selected or are being held. Along with this, players are busy preparing themselves for the games. There is a different ruckus in all these different table tennis. The matter has reached the court on the decision of selection of Indian Table Tennis Team for CWG. The matter of selection of the women’s team had already reached the court, now a player has challenged the decision of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) in the Delhi High Court regarding the selection in the men’s team.
The team for these games was announced only last week, but there has been a ruckus on it since then. The controversy over the selection of the team intensified on Monday, 6 June. An application has been filed in the Delhi High Court on the exclusion of another player from the team. At the same time, the CoA, which is handling the work of Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), said that the team announced last week is not the final.
Petition against selection of men’s team
In fact, the CoA had announced an eight-man squad in Bengaluru while the women’s team was dropped after getting approval from the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Divya Chitale, who was kept on standby in the women’s team, challenged this in the Delhi High Court. Following Divya’s path, Manush Shah, now kept in reserve in the men’s team, also took the same path. Giving information about this, Manush’s father Utpan Shah said, “We have filed a writ petition in the Delhi High Court today. The hearing on this along with Chitale’s case will be held on June 10.
CoA and SAI also face to face
On the other hand, the CoA, which is surrounded by controversies due to this matter, has written to the players that the final decision regarding the women’s and men’s teams has not been taken yet. While announcing the team at the press conference in Bengaluru, it was said that SAI’s approval would be taken for the women’s team.

On the other hand, SAI, while being dragged itself into the team selection, also shunned all this while presenting its explanation. SAI issued a statement on Monday saying that it is the responsibility of the National Sports Federation to select teams for major international tournaments. SAI said in a tweet, the government or SAI does not directly interfere in the selection process. His job is simply to ensure that the selection is fair and transparent.
