Chennai: Chennai Super Kings, returning to their home Chepauk after 2019, did not disappoint the fans. Chennai defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs in their second match of IPL-2023 played on Monday. With this, the four-time winner opened her account of victory. Batting first, Chennai scored 217 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs on the basis of Rituraj Gaikwad’s 57 and Devon Conway’s 47 runs. Lucknow could not achieve this target even after a good start. After playing full 20 overs in front of Moin Ali’s spin, Lucknow could score only 205 runs after losing seven wickets.
Kyle Myers’ bat once again for Lucknow. He scored 53 runs off 22 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes. No other batsman could run his bat in Chennai’s house and the team got its first defeat. Lucknow defeated Delhi Capitals in their first match.

Lucknow’s blast in Powerplay
Chasing a target of 218 runs, the Lucknow team got the start they needed. Team captain KL Rahul and Myers added 80 runs in the powerplay. This is Lucknow’s biggest score in the powerplay so far. Myers completed the half-century and after that he was dismissed. MS Dhoni did not make Moin Ali bowl in the last match. The same Moeen got Myers caught by Devon Conway at deep midwicket. It was Moin Ali who got KL Rahul caught by Gaikwad.
Rahul was dismissed as the third wicket of Lucknow. Earlier, Deepak Hooda was dismissed by Mitchell Santner. Hooda scored two and Rahul scored 20 runs. Moin Ali again showed Krunal Pandya the way to the pavilion. Pandya was caught by Ravindra Jadeja at long on. He scored nine runs. Moin Ali then took Marcus Stoinis to the pavilion. He scored 21 runs.

Lucknow’s hopes now rested on Nicholas Pooran but this player was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande. Puran hit a sharp shot but it went straight into the hands of Stokes standing at long off. On the third ball of the last over, Deshpande dismissed Ayush Badhoni and dropped Lucknow’s seventh wicket. Ayush could only score 23 runs in 18 balls.
Moeen Ali was the most successful bowler for Chennai. He took four wickets for 26 runs in four overs of his quota. Deshpande took two wickets in his name. Santner got a wicket.

Earlier, Rahul chose to bowl after winning the toss. But their bowlers could not stop Gaikwad and Conway from making a stormy start. Mark Wood’s speed did not work in front of both of them. In the powerplay, both of them added 73 runs. Both shared a 110-run partnership for the first wicket. This pair had made this score in nine overs only. On the first ball of the 10th over, Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Gaikwad as soon as he arrived. This batsman played an inning of 57 runs in 31 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes. In the next over, Wood did not allow Conway to complete his half-century. Conway was dismissed after scoring 47 runs in 29 balls. He hit five fours and two sixes in his innings.
Bishnoi’s spin showed wonders
Meanwhile, Bishnoi got the Chennai batsmen going with his spin but he could not stop the run rate. In the 14th over, Shivam Dubey hit two sixes on Bishnoi but then he was dismissed on the fifth ball of this over. He scored 27 runs in 16 balls with the help of three sixes and one four. Moin Ali also got stumped on Bishnoi’s ball after scoring 19 runs. Ben Stokes once again failed and got out after scoring eight runs.

Mahi’s charm in Chepauk
Wood did not allow Ravindra Jadeja to go beyond three runs. His wicket fell on the first ball of the last over. Then Dhoni stepped in and looted the party by hitting two consecutive sixes. He got out on the third ball. He scored 12 runs in three balls.
