Donato Sabia was a victim of Corona virus
Coronavirus has wreaked havoc all over the world. It seemed that in the last few days, there has been some decrease in the cases, but by March, the world is once again facing this epidemic. Many actors, sportspersons, leaders and common people around the world have fallen prey to it and many have lost their lives. The Olympians who became the first victims of this epidemic last year were Donato Sabia of Italy.
Last time Italy was involved in the countries which suffered the most from this pandemic. Due to Corona here, many lakhs of people lost their lives. At one time, that time was a country with more infected cases. No one is caught in the grip of it. Donato Sabia’s family also fell into it and took away the life of this Olympic. Donato was the first Olympian to die from Coronavirus.
Been involved in athletics for a long time
Sabia initially took part in Protenza’s athletics team only to increase her pace which would have helped her play football. When he set a record in the junior category in the 400 meters event, he decided that he would do the same now. He won the European Indoor Championship in 1984 at the age of just 21, as well as finishing fifth at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. He then finished seventh at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. His best performance was 1: 43.88, which he achieved on 13 June 1984.
Even after his retirement, he did not leave the game. In 1998, he came to Malta and started training athletes from there with the help of the Olympic Solitude Scholarship which included players like Mario Bonello, Ganderu Grech.
Corona was serving parents
When Corona was wreaking havoc in the world, only when Saabia came to know that his parents had Corona, he joined the service. During this time, he himself became infected with the virus. After this, he was admitted to the hospital in Protenza. Gradually his condition deteriorated and eventually he had to lose his life from this disease. The Italian Athletics Federation was the first to report that former European Indoor Champion Donato Sabia died of the Corona virus. Donato lost his father to the epidemic eight days before he said goodbye to the world. On March 31, Donato’s father became a victim of Corona, and now on April 7, he too gave up in front of the virus.
