Chris Maurice will be seen playing for Rajasthan Royals for the second time. He has also played for CSK, RCB, Delhi in IPL.
Chris Maurice was released by RCB, after which he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16.25 crore in the auction.
The Indian Premier League has always been dominated by all-rounders. Whether it is Ben Stokes or Yuvraj Singh or Glenn Maxwell, all-rounders get rained on every time they enter the auction. It was also seen in the auction of IPL-2021 (IPL-2021). As soon as the name of South African all-rounder Chris Morris came in the auction, the teams started pouring money. Maurice was joined by the 2008 winner Rajasthan Royals for 16.25 crores. With this, Maurice also became the most expensive foreign player in IPL history. This is the second time Maurice will play for Rajasthan.
Raising money in the IPL is not new for Maurice. In the 2020 season, he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, captained by Virat Kohli and RCB gave him a sum of Rs 10 crore. Maurice played only nine matches from RCB last season and took 11 wickets in his name. Maurice has played seven IPL seasons so far and has taken 80 wickets in 70 matches. In his 70 matches, 551 runs also came off his bat.
Played finals with Dhoni’s team
Maurice played in the IPL for the first time in 2013. Then Chennai Super Kings, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, had linked him with them. Chennai had played the finals this season but lost to Mumbai Indians. In the 2013 season, Maurice took 15 wickets in 16 matches. In 2015, he reached Rajasthan and was successful in taking 13 wickets in 11 matches. Since then, he has returned to Rajasthan in two more teams.
Played four years in delhi
When Rajasthan left him, he was joined by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). In 2016, Maurice played 12 matches for Delhi and took 13 wickets. In 2017, he took 12 wickets for Delhi, playing nine matches. In 2018, he was able to play only three matches for the team. In 2019, he took 13 wickets in nine matches for Delhi. However, he could not do anything special with the bat. After 2019, Delhi released him and RCB joined him. RCB decided not to retain him this year and Rajasthan made a record-breaking bid for Maurice at the auction.
Increased responsibility
Maurice has been bought by the team for a huge amount. Obviously they will have responsibility, but now this responsibility has increased because the team’s main fast bowler Joffra Archer will not be able to play due to injury in the first half of the league. In such a situation, the responsibility of the team’s fast bowling attack over Maurice will be.
