IPL 2021: Cheteshwar Pujara (Cheteshwar Pujara), who was not sold in IPL auction for many years, was bought by CSK at his base price of Rs 50 lakh.
Cheteshwar Pujara is back in the IPL after seven years.
Cheteshwar Pujara has joined the IPL after seven years. He is with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021. Before the tournament started, Cheteshwar Pujara said that after learning lessons from players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he is now desperate to make a mark on CSK. Pujara, who was not sold in the IPL auction for many years, was bought by CSK at his base price of Rs 50 lakhs this year. In such a situation, Pujara is now ready to play T20 cricket with a changed mindset and attitude. He has also taken help from Rahul Dravid in this regard.
Not being a power hitter (big shot player), there have always been questions on Pujara’s strike rate. In this regard, he said that he will depend on the timing of his national team captain Kohli and vice-captain Rohit to improve it. Pujara told ESPNcricinfo, ‘Yes, I agree that I am not a power hitter when it comes to strike rate. But at the same time you learn from players like Virat. Rohit, he is not a complete power hitter but is one of the players to hit the ball with the best timing that I have seen in the limited overs format. Even one can learn from New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. Because he plays all kinds of cricket shots.
Pujara said – can also learn from Williamson-Smith
Pujara said,
You learn from players like Ken Williamson. Even from Steve Smith. All of them score runs just by playing good cricket shots and also try to do something new. I also have the same mindset that if I want to be successful, then I too have to do something new but at the same time you can score runs by playing the exact cricket shot. You need to make your shot stronger, I do not deny it but at the same time I feel that understanding of cricket is your strongest side.
Pujara also helped Dravid
The 33-year-old player admitted that at the early stage of his career, he felt that changing the game according to the need of T20 cricket would affect his Test cricket, but now it is not so. Pujara said that he also got help from Rahul Dravid’s advice. They said,
I got this advice from Rahul bhai a long time ago but I still want to mention it. He said that even if you try to play different shots, your natural game will not change.
Pujara also believes that if you are a successful red ball player, then it is not difficult to adjust to the limited overs format.
