Ravi Shastri worked with Team India first as the team director and then as the head coach. He left his post after the ICC T20 World Cup this year.
Ravi Shastri was the head coach of the Indian team from 2017 to 2021.
Ravi Shastri was the head coach of the Indian cricket team for a long time. Under him, the team achieved a lot of success which included winning two consecutive Test series in Australia. Shastri had already told before the ICC T20 World Cup-2021 that he would not extend his contract as the head coach of Team India. After him, Rahul Dravid took over as the new head coach of Team India. Now Shastri has spoken on his time spent with Team India and has made some revelations. Ravi Shastri has told in an interview given to the English newspaper Times of India that some people did not want him to become a coach. Let us tell you that before starting his tenure as head coach, Ravi Shastri was also the director of Team India. He came to this post in 2014. He was again removed from this post and Anil Kumble was made the coach of Team India. Kumble left his post due to a dispute with captain Virat Kohli and then Shastri returned.
Shastri also recalled the time when he was the team director and then he was dropped. Recalling his time with Team India from 2014, Shastri said, “When I look at the journey of the entire seven years, this team was the team which chased the target of 360 runs and trailed by 30-40 runs. Was. In 2021, this team easily chases 328 runs. For me it is a legacy. From Adelaide Test-2014, we sent this message to the team that we want to play this type of cricket. At the same time, captaincy came from Dhoni to Virat, this transition also had to happen. Then suddenly I got a shock. I was suddenly asked to leave. I had sown the seeds and the fruits were growing. And suddenly I came to know that I will be changed. Nobody told me the reason.”
It was very sad – Shastri
Shastri said that he was deeply saddened by this. He said, “Yes, I was hurt because the way I was removed was not right. There could have been better ways to get me out. Nine months had passed since this thing and he was doing his work (commentary). I didn’t know there was anything wrong with the team. I was told there was a problem with the team. How can there be a problem in nine months? The team I left was in good shape. In my second term, I came after a lot of controversies. It was a slap in the face to those who wanted to keep me out. He chose someone else and after nine months he returned to the same person he had thrown out.”
Coach did not want to make me and Bharat
Shastri said that some people in the BCCI did not want him to be the head coach and Bharat Arun to be the bowling coach. He said, “Yeah, they didn’t even want me to have Bharat Arun as the bowling coach. You see how things have changed. Whom he did not want to be a bowling coach, he proved to be the best bowling coach of this country. I am not pointing fingers at any one person. But I am saying this with certainty that every effort was made to ensure that I do not get a job. This is life.”
