With the cancellation of Ranji Trophy, the problem of running home has become in front of the cricketers. The players who play in the IPL have no problem but those who do not play in it face trouble.
Sourav Ganguly is the former captain of the Indian team and the current president of the BCCI.
The Special General Meeting of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) was held on May 29 but there was no talk about giving financial help to the domestic players. The Ranji Trophy 2020 was canceled by the BCCI due to Corona virus. Due to this, the players did not get any money. After this, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that the players playing in domestic cricket will be compensated for the loss due to the cancellation of Ranji Trophy. But so far no work has been done in this direction. According to the news agency PTI, a state association in SGM raised the issue but Sourav Ganguly and vice-president Rajiv Shukla said that it was not a part of the meeting’s agenda to stop the matter from going ahead.
With the cancellation of Ranji Trophy, the problem of running home has become in front of the cricketers. The players who play in the IPL have no problem but those who do not play in it face trouble. Due to this, many domestic cricketers are trying to play in other countries. Under this, they are looking for opportunities in local leagues abroad. However, BCCI organized the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (20 overs) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (50 overs). The money of both these tournaments has also been given to the players.
Financial help formula is not ready
On the issue of financial assistance, PTI has written to a large state association, “Last financial assistance was passed only last January. Yes, no formula has been made yet and trust me it is not that easy. Dada got approval for financial help but where is the formula. Today, if a state gives contracts to 20 players, which is the maximum number, then maybe five players can go to court and say that they were going to be selected this year. The board will have to consider all these issues.
BCCI treasurer blames states
Earlier, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal had said recently that no state association has asked the board for financial help so far. He told PTI, ‘We have to talk to the states because they have to tell us who could have played, how many matches would have happened, who would have been in reserve. No state has sent any proposal for financial help. A former BCCI official also agreed with Dhumal.
He said, ‘The treasurer is right. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said about the compensation but how will it be decided which player will play eight matches in a season or which will play 10? Reserve players will get half the money so how will you include them? You cannot pay directly to each player. Giving money to the states under an estimate is an option but how will you monitor it?
