Satwisairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s performance this year was nothing special and the pair could reach the quarterfinals in only one of the five tournaments before the Swiss Open. This is the first BWF doubles title of both of them this year.

New Delhi: India’s badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated China’s Ren Xiang Yu and Tan Qiang in the men’s doubles final of the Swiss Open on Sunday. The pair defeated the Chinese pair in straight games 21-19, 24-22 in the final. The world number-6 pair defeated the world number-21 pair in less than an hour. The Indian pair dominated the entire match and easily captured the match.
This is Rankireddy and Shetty’s first BWF doubles title this year. At the same time, both of them have the fifth title. This title is a matter of great relief for this pair because this year both of them could go beyond the quarterfinals only once out of five tournaments. The pair, however, were troubled by injuries. Rankireddy was injured due to which he could not be a part of the Asian Mixed Team Championship team.

showed strength from the beginning
In the final played in Basel, this pair showed aggression from the beginning against the Chinese pair. Both of them took initial marks but then also lost some. After the initial lead, at one point the score was tied at 6-6. After this, Rankireddy hit a brilliant shot and took the lead by one point. The score of the Indian pair was 11-8 till the break. After this the Indian players did not look back and first scored 16-11 and then 17-12. In the last moments, the Chinese pair scored some points and put the Indian pair in trouble. But the Indian pair was successful in winning the first game.
dominated in the second round as well
The pair took an early lead by showing aggressive play in the second round as well. But then the Chinese pair also made a comeback and took the lead by scoring 4-2. But after this, Rankireddy and Shetty made a comeback to score 6-4. The pair went into the break with a score of 11-9. After the break, however, the Chinese pair tried to level the score and put India in trouble, but then the Indian pair immediately scored some brilliant points to make the score 14-11. From here again the pair did not look back and won the title by winning the game as well as the match.
